Interview - Matt Hillier (Beer Slash)

1.Hey Matt! creepy greetings from Peru! hows going the things here?
Hey Sk8 Coach mag, thanks! Alls good in England but no surf and raining today, so not so fun.

2.Matt tell us more about Beer Slash...How was born this malevolent project into the surf and skateboard?
Beer Slash just kind of made itself. I was filming some skating for the Sardinian brand "Old Boys Skate Club" and we set up a shot where my friend Adrian Willard of Tiger Bones Tattoo slashed some empty beer cans off the bowl coping.
I edited the footage with the title "Beer Slash" on it and when I sent it off to Andre the guy that runs Old Boys said he wanted some more footage from the Beer Slash crew.
I thought that was a pretty rad name and thought I would film for my own video of us and call it Beer Slash.
I never made the video in the end but I got some stickers made and gave them to my friends.
Some of them mentioned that I should make some T-shirts with Beer Slash on it, firstly I thought "no way, too much hassle" but I came around to the idea and started getting some made.

3.Your influences and motivation in Beer Slash?
The influences for Beer Slash are 80's and early 90's skating, surfing and punk rock. Plain and simple.
The motivation is to make a fun small brand with those influences.

4.You run another proyect paralell to Beer Slash?
Currently no other projects although I have a couple of new ideas that may happen in the future.

5.Explain about the underground scene into surf and skateboard about your city/country mate.
Well I skate mainly at home so I don't know about the rest of the UK!
In Peacehaven we have a really fun mini combi bowl.
We have sessions there often and take a PA system and skate super early in the morning till mid day or have BBQ's and skate in the evening.
Theres some great underground brands from out of our area too as well as Beer Slash theres Bowl Skaters and Pig City.
As far as surfing in the UK goes I'd say we're all underground especially where I live.
The waves mainly suck but the scene is strong.
I try and surf on my own as I hate crowds, pretty much like any other surfer.

6.You know the underground scene into surf and skateboard from Southamerica?
I know a little bit but not much.
I know you've got some good waves there.
Ive always really liked watching Brazilian surfer and tattooer Etam Paese on youtube who rips at airs, he's like the Brazillain Christian Fletcher.
I really like Lodo boards, hand made skateboards out of Brazil, I just sent a bunch of stickers to one of their riders who asked me for some. "Hi" Ariel Raymundo if you;re reading this!
Of course from talking to you and looking at your blog Sk8 Coach Mag.

7.What kind from merch have Beer Slash?
t-shirts,hats,stickers,buttons?
Currently we have T-shirts, Long sleeve T-shirts, crew neck sweat shirts, hats and stickers in stock with art work from tattooer Adrian Willard and skate ripper Johnny Abernathy.
